CHRIS THOMPSON, 84, of AFTON, DIES

Afton, IA - Christian H. (Chris) Thompson, 84, a resident of Afton for many years, died at 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston. He had been a patient at the hospital for the past two weeks. He had been hospitalized several times during the past year. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at the Methodist Church in Afton. Rev. Lyle Dunham will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery at Afton. His body will be at the William Coen Funeral Home in Afton until 1 P.M. Saturday when it will be taken to the Church to lie in state before the services. The casket will not be opened after the services.

Christian H. Thompson was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, December 15, 1873. He came to the United States as a boy and came to Afton in 1917 from Madison County. He was a retired farmer and had served for four years as sheriff of Union County. Surviving are his widow, Dora, three sons, Gordon and Walter of Afton and Leonard of Dunlap, a daughter, Mrs. Edna Rabon of Velva, North Dakota, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Matilda Struck of Clinton and a brother, Cornelius of Clarion. Three daughters preceded him in death, Mrs. Helen Hinricksen in 1932, Mrs. Elsie Cline in 1934, and Mrs. Clara Altaffer in 1951.
