Iowa Teen Wearing Seat Belt Ejected From Car, Dies

ALDEN, Iowa --

Crash investigators said the force of a crash was so severe that a teen driver who was wearing her seat belt was ejected Tuesday. The crash happened on a Hardin County road south of Oakland at Dogwood Avenue and Hardin Street at 7:40 a.m. Investigators said a pickup truck driven by Marlo White, 56, drove into an intersection and hit a car driven by Victoria Westfall, 17, of Alden. White's vehicle struck the driver's door of Westfall's car, officials said. Both vehicles were thrown into the ditch. Investigators said Westfall was ejected despite wearing her seat belt due to the severity of the damage. Westfall was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, but later died. White suffered injuries and was taken to Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. The crash remains under investigation.
