Mrs. Rex McBarnes of Corwith died this morning at 4 o'clock in St. Anthony hospital with peritonitis, which developed following a Caesarean birth. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McBarnes at 1008 Simon avenue and will be conducted by the Rev. Henry C. Schneider, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the McBarnes lot in the city cemetery.

Miriam Claire Hammond, daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Fred E. Hammond, was born in Stockton, Illinois, May 24, 1902 and lived there until she was a year old when she moved with her parents, to Denver, Colo. There she was educated and after graduating from the city schools went to Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois, where she entered the conservatory of music. During her course in the conservatory, she met Rex McBarnes, who was a student in the university and they were married in Chicago Dec. 16, 1922. They remained in the city until 1926 when they came to Carroll to make their home and spent last year on a farm near Corwith. Two children were born to this union, a son Rex D., four and one half years old and a tiny daughter, Janine Dawn, just a week old.

Mrs. McBarnes, known as "Betty" by her family and friends, was the only child of her parents. Her mother died in 1923 and her father who made his home in Carroll for a few months, died about a year ago. Her only living relatives are a great aunt, Mrs. Winskel of Benton, Wis., who is ill and her daughter, Mrs. Lathrop, who is expected to arrive for the funeral. Since her marriage to their son Rex, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McBarnes have been father and mother to her and great is their grief and that of their son. The entire community is saddened by the death of the young mother. She was a member of the Methodist church in Denver, but since coming to Carroll attended the Presbyterian church, which was the church home of her husband and his parents.
