March 5, 1899 -- April 6, 1991

Bernice Sayre Nail, 92 of Webster City, a former Blairsburg resident, died Saturday morning, April 6 at the Hamilton County Hospital where she had been a patient for 10 days. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 9 at 1:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Roy Miltner and Rev. John Grebner officiating. Burial will be in the Blairsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Bernice Marie Mullins, daughter of Aaron and Blanche Long Mullins, was born March 5, 1899, at Maroa, Ill. At the age of 9, she moved with her parents to Blairsburg. She attended school there, graduating in 1918. She attended Iowa State College and taught in rural schools in Hamilton County. On December 24, 1923, she married Chris Christensen, a Hamilton County Extension Agent. The couple resided in Webster City. She was preceded in death by her husband in March of 1928. On June 7, 1933, she married Coe M. Sayre, a rural Blairsburg mail carrier. She taught at Blairsburg for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband in June of 1978. On January 15, 1983, she married Pete Nail at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. For the past two and one-half years, she had resided at Crestview Manor.

Survivors include her husband, Pete; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Melvin Larsen of Springfield, Ill; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Varnum of Corwith. She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, three brothers and one sister.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a former volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. She organized the Candy Stripers at the Hamilton County Hospital and was also the Blairsburg correspondent for the Daily Freeman-Journal for many years.
