David Eugene Bahr, 71, of 315 Morningside Street in Boone, Iowa for the past 4 years, formerly of Derby, Kansas, Ames, Story City, and Clarion, Iowa, passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday evening, April 19, 2011. He was born October 31, 1939, in Alden, Iowa the son of Frank Ernest and Daisy Mae (Hunt) Bahr. On August 23, 1959, he married Sharon Kay Lemon at the First Baptist Church in Webster City, Iowa. He was educated in Clarion, Iowa. David was an auto parts manager in Clarion and Story City, Iowa; and Mulvane and Wichita, Kansas. He and Sharon moved to Boone, Iowa for retirement. He loved taking care of his home and yard, woodworking, making things for his children and grandchildren, and spending time with family. David was a kind and unselfish man who loved to putter in his yard and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His parents, half-sisters Ruth (Bahr) McCoy and Doris Doren; step-father, Nick Powgnas; and step-brothers Henry and Leo Powgnas preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Sharon; his children Candace “Candy” (Bahr) Noelck and husband Paul of Boone, Rodney Bahr and wife Josie of Wichita, Kansas, and Chadwick Bahr and wife Carolyn of Yuma, Arizona; grandchildren Adam Noelck of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jessica Noelck of Madison, Wisconsin, Jason Noelck of Golden, Colorado, Abby Noelck of Iowa City, Iowa, McKinley and Elias Bahr both of Wichita, Kansas, Adam Hartley of Wellington, Kansas, and Heather (Hartley) Petit and husband Justin of Gardner, Kansas; a great-grandson, Jerimiah Petit, of Gardner, Kansas; and a step-sister Kathryn Baker of Ames, Iowa.
Services will be held on Saturday morning, April 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Chad Bahr officiating. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel prior to the service on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service with the family present during that time to greet friends. Following the funeral service in accordance with David’s wishes, his body will be cremated with a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
