HAMPTON, IA - Ardis Hackbarth, 94, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Dows United Methodist Church. A private family burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Dows, prior to the memorial service at the church. Family visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Dugger Funeral Home in Dows.

Ardis Hackbarth, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Dows United Methodist Church. A private family burial was held at Fairview Cemetery in Dows, Iowa prior to the memorial service at the church. Family visitation will be at Dugger Funeral Home in Dows, Iowa on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Ardis was born in Jewell, Iowa on May 20, 1916 to Louis and Amy Johnston Westre. Ardis grew up in the Jewell area and graduated from Randall High School in 1933. Ardis moved to the Dows area after graduating in 1933. On March 20, 1940, Ardis was united in marriage to Gerald Hackbarth at Bethesda Lutheran church in Jewell, Iowa and he preceded her in death in 1978. Ardis was a member of the Dows United Methodist Church, the Dows U.M.W. and a charter member of the Kensington Club. Ardis also operated the Skelly Oil Service Station in Dows while her husband was serving the country during WWII. Ardis served on the Swimming Pool Board and was one of the organizers of the Community Chest in Dows. Ardis also enjoyed volunteering at the Dows Welcome Center, Dows Elementary School and former Dows Care Center.

Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers. Her memory is cherished by her four sons, Jerry (Connie) of Flovilla, GA, Larry (Mary Alyce) of Waukesha, WI, Robert (Mary) of Dows, IA and Kirk (Christy) of Cedar Falls, IA along with grandson Kurt Hackbarth of Monroe, GA, granddaughters Kori Hackbarth of Waukesha, WI, Rachel (Chris) Standley of Clive, IA, Amber (Jared) Korf of Olathe, KS, Jennifer (Chris) Buckett of Greendale, WI, Laura (Aaron) Holder of Wauwatosa, WI along with four great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Memorial donations can be directed to the Dows United Methodist Church or to the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.
