June 5, 1913 -- February 14, 2011

Kenneth D. Mandsager, 97, of Forest Farm Assisted Living, Middletown, R.I., formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at the center. He was the husband of Evelyn R. (Cleveland) Mandsager. Born in Thor, Iowa on June 5, 1913, he was the son of the late Michael and Synva (Sandven) Mandsager. He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard during World War II and served with the 34th Division in the European and African Theatre of operation. After returning from overseas, he married Evelyn Cleveland of Fort Dodge. They made their home in Fort Dodge, where Ken was a dealer of petroleum products until retiring. Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his son Dennis L. Mandsager and his wife Sherri of Portsmouth, R.I.; his three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. in St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Burial will be private. Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fort Dodge, is in charge of arrangements.

He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard during World War II and served with the 34th Division in the European and African Theatre of operation. After returning from overseas, he marred Evelyn Cleveland of Fort Dodge. Upon discharge from the service, they made their home in Fort Dodge. Ken was a dealer of Petroleum Products until retiring. Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his son Dennis L. Mandsager and his wife Sherrie of Portsmouth, RI, and his grandchildren, Greggory Mandsager and his wife Anna of Muscatine, Iowa, Sara Mandsager of McAllen, TX, Kristin SanBento and her husband Chad of Warwick, RI and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 11 a.m., in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.
