Ocala, FL - Melvin Dale Howard, Sr., 80, died March 19, 2011 in Ocala, FL. Mr. Howard was born in Klemme, IA to Ned Lee Howard and Minnie Medaus. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a graduate of the University of Iowa class of 1958, and a comptroller for Wickes Lumber Co. and Ocala Lumber. He moved from Emmaus, PA to the Ocala area in 1985, enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala. Mr. Howard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cheridia Howard; daughter, Kathy Sue Willaford of Ocala, FL; son, Melvin D. Howard, Jr. of Melbourne Beach, FL; brothers, Robert Howard of Denton, TX, Elmer Howard of Omaha, NE, and Raymond Howard of Sundance, WY; grandchildren, Claire Simmons-Valenzuela, Joshua Shottland, and Madeline Shottland; great-grandchildren, Aaron George and Caydence Crim. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470.
