Charles F. Carder, son of Wesley J., and Mary Ann Carder, was born on August 22, 1875, at Maquoketa, Iowa and passed away at the I.O.O.F. home in Mason City on November 17, 1946 at that time being 71 years, 2 months and 25 days of age. He spent his early boyhood at Maquoketa, coming with his parents to Eagle Grove in the year of 1883 and he attended the schools here in Eagle Grove. In the year of 1887 he moved with his parents to Sioux City where he worked and attended night school, taking a course in business and specializing in bookkeeping. He returned to Eagle Grove in 1896 and began working for the C. & N, W. railway, as a caller. In the year of 1901 he began work for the W. R. Blake Lumber Co., and remained in their employ until forced to retire on account of ill health about six years ago.

Mr. Carder joined the local Methodist church on September 22, 1896 under the pastorate of the Rev. J. W. Southwell and remained a member until his death. He was also a member of the Masonic bodies at Eagle Grove and a member of the Golden Links Lodge No. 68 of Eagle Grove. He thought a great deal of the fraternal orders to which he belonged and there are many members who have been coached in their work by him.

He was known as a kindly man, one always faithful to his task and a good workman. He will be greatly missed by his friends and relatives. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Jessie Royce of Algona, one brother, M. H. Carder, Big Rapids, Mich., three nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services were held at Wilson's Chapel on November 22, with Rev. Walter Ross officiating and interment was made on the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery. Frank C. Wells sang two solos and was accompanied by H. D. Talmage, and the burial services of the order were conducted by the Golden Links Lodge No. 68 with Arthur Westre, W. E. Warnes and W. E. Floyd exemplifying the work.
