April 18, 1918 -- October 29, 1993

Funeral services for Ellen H. Whitaker, 75, of 1900 First Ave. N.E. will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with Pastor R. Allen Flint officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, 9-11 a.m. Monday and one hour before the service at the church.

Mrs. Whitaker was born April 18,1918 at Corwith, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Frank and Martha (Harris) Barber. The family moved to the Hayward area where Ellen attended rural school. She was married to LaVern F. E. Whitaker on December 30, 1937 at Oakland, Minn. Mrs. Whitaker was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Since Mr. Whitaker's retirement in 1973 they have traveled extensively.

She is survived by her husband, LaVerne F. E. Whitaker of Austin; a daughter,Carolyn Hyland of Rochester; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Whitaker of Dallas,Texas; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; brother and sisters-in-law, Carl and Edith Barber of Kelso, Wash., Elva Barber of Brazil and Margaret Barber of Rockford,Ill.; a sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Earl Hoffer of Pampa, Texas; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Wayne and Dale.
