December 26, 1915 -- December 8, 2003

Rudolph A. Elbert, 87, died Monday, December 8 (2003), in the Algona Manor. Memorial funeral service for him will be celebrated by Father Daniel Greving at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Wesley. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery at Algona with military graveside rites conducted by Andrews Post No. 428 of the American Legion at Wesley. The Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Wesley is in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers are Jim Elbert, William C. Elbert, Kevin Bleich, Roger Elbert, Merle Bleich, Carl Ricklefs and Todd Studer. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) with a Rosary at 4 and prayer service at 7.

Rudolph Andrew, son of Lawrence and Johanna Buck Elbert, was born at Whittemore on December 26, 1915. He grew up at Whittemore where he attended country school through the 8th grade. After his schooling, Rudolph worked for different farmers in the area until he entered the service. After his honorable discharge from the military in 1945, he returned to work as a farm hand.

Rudolph was married to Ella Frances Sankey January 3, 1946, in St. Cecelia Catholic Church at Algona. After their marriage, he worked on farms at Titonka, Eagle Grove and Corwith. In 1971, the couple moved to Wesley and he worked for Marting Manufacturing at Britt where he continued for eight years until retiring in 1979. After he retired, Rudolph did a lot of gardening, mowing lawns and tilling of gardens until his health began to fail two years ago. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Andrews Post No. 428 of the American Legion at Wesley.

He is survived by his wife, Ella and a daughter, Joella and John Leider of Rockford, IA. there are two grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters; Anthony Elbert and John Elbert, both of Algona; Carmella and Ray Kline, Iowa Falls; Charles and Sharon Elbert, Mason City; Henry and Lynn Elbert, Algona and Rosella Ryg, Algona. His parents, a brother, Robert, and sisters, Luella Wagner, Orletha Elbert and Anna Mae Elbert are deceased.
