Des Moines, IA -- Irene A. McVenes, 92, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2011 at Calvin Community, in Des Moines. Irene was born January 25, 1919 in Rowan, Iowa, the daughter of John and Charlotte (Reinke) Wirtz. In 1955 Irene was united in marriage to Thomas M. McVenes. They made their homes in Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines. Irene was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Irene is survived by her sisters, Loretta Chambers, Dows, Elsie (Darwin) Lekwa, Ames, brother, Elmer (Audrey) Wirtz, Dows, and sister-in-law Phyllis Wirtz, Hampton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Irene will also be remembered by her extended families, Richard Hooke, Peter DeMont and James Williams, and their families. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, her parents, sister Florene Pralle, and brother, Arthur Wirtz. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
