CRYSTAL LAKE, IA — Esther R. Foley, 84, of Crystal Lake, died Friday (Jan. 23, 1998) at the Wyndcrest Nursing Home, in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Ken Suetterlin, officiating. There will be a private inurnment in Crystal Lake Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt.
Esther, the daughter of John and Ida Marie (Ludwig) Bonnstetter, was born Nov. 9, 1913 in Corwith, Iowa. She attended school in Corwith, graduating from Corwith High School. She was married to Jean Edward Foley on Nov. 22, 1934, at Cambridge, Ill. They farmed in the Corwith and Crystal Lake areas and owned and operated the Crystal Milling Company from 1953 to 1978. Jean passed away June 7, 1980. She was a member of the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church and past worthy matron of Eastern Star. She enjoyed her family, sewing, cooking, baking cookies, gardening, crafts and helping others.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hjelmaas and her husband, Robert, of Clinton; one grandson, Reid Hjelmaas and his wife, Judy of Grayslake, Ill.; one granddaughter, Angela Griffith and her husband, Aaron, of Mt. Zion, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Kristen, Drake and Lauren; sisters-in-law, Rita Gillette, of Marshalltown, Lelia Bonnstetter, of Charleston, Ill., and Willadel Foley, of Cape Neddick, Mass., as well as nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband; a daughter, Janet Faye Foley; and four brothers.
