Maynard Rockow joined his Savior after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Services will be Wednesday December 29 at 11 am at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden. Family will receive friends one hour before services. Private burial will be held at a later date. Surls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 1 2nd Ave. NW, Hampton, IA 50441 or the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden.

Maynard Milton Rockow was born on June 10, 1929 to Edward and Myrtle (Heiden) Rockow in Williams, Iowa. Maynard went to Dows Community School and then went on to join the US Army where he was discharged from in 1952 in Ft. Cluster, Michigan. On May 16, 1954, Maynard was united in marriage to Delia Lou Hoversten at the Immanuel Memorial UCC. Maynard was a self-employed contractor. Maynard spent ten years as a volunteer for the Alden Fire Department and 48 years as a member of the Collins-Dunning Unit 201 American Legion.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Delia of Alden, Iowa; four daughters Teresa Donner (Rick Brastad) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Julie Rockow of Arlington, Texas, Peggy Rockow (Carey Slegh) of Austin, Minnesota, Regina (Greg) Eide of Marion, Iowa; three grandsons Dane (Jessica) Rockow, currently in Afghanistan, Dustin Rockow of St. Paul, Minnesota and Caleb Slegh of Austin, Minnesota; a granddaughter Mikayla Eskens of Austin, Minnesota; three brothers, Edward (Sharon) Rockow of Dows, Virgil (Charlene) Rockow of Phoenix, AZ and Lyle (Florence) Rockow of Bella Vista, AR; and two sisters-in-law Charlotte Rockow of Belmond, Iowa and Elsie (Wilbur) Schroeder of Dows, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harley and Irvin Rockow, and a granddaughter Bailey Slegh.
