Thelma M. Gleason 88, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City.
Thelma is survived by her sons, David Gleason of Sioux Falls, SD, Mark (Jayne Lawson) Gleason of Rockwell City, Dean (Brenda Brundage) Gleason of Gowrie, and Brian (Vicki Board) Gleason of Rockwell City; special family friend, Mark “Albert” Schilling of Rockwell City; 10 grandchildren, Stacey, Nathan, Jill, Kari, Kevin, Kristi, Kali, Kathleen, Audrey, and Abby; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother Donald Mericle of Eagle Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; parents, Irving and Mable Estlund Mericle; sister Lorena Dencklau; and brother Floyd Mericle.
Thelma M. Mericle Gleason was born July 8, 1922 on a farm near Vincent, and attended country schools. Thelma worked at various jobs including Ruge’s Deli, Tobin Packing Co., Friendship Haven, and Webster Co. Mental Health. On Feb. 3, 1945 she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Gleason at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ft. Dodge. The couple farmed the family farm near Rockwell City. Kenneth passed away in 2008. Thelma later moved to Sunnyview Independent Living in Rockwell City. She enjoyed her flower garden, crossword puzzles, reading, garage sales, PV Softball, the Iowa Hawkeyes, spending winters in Arizona, and especially loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Thelma was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
