ROWAN, IA - Larry A. Aldrich, 77, of Rowan died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at his home near Rowan. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at the United Church of Rowan. Pastor Nancy Hofmeister will officiate. Burial will take place in the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Graveside military rites will be performed by the American Legion Andrew Whitten Post No. 159 of Rowan. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S., Belmond, and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday, Dec. 19. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in memory of Larry A. Aldrich's name to the family.

Larry Allen Aldrich, age 77, of Rowan passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at his home near Rowan. Funeral services were held Sunday December 19th at the United Church of Rowan. Burial was held at the Graceland Cemetery, Rowan.

Larry Allen, the son of Raymond and Neva Hinckley Aldrich, was born January 5, 1933 between Rowan and Belmond, in Iowa Township. He attended country schools at Iowa Township No. 4, and graduated from Rowan High School in 1950. Larry was united in marriage to Wilma Whitten on December 28, 1952 at the Congregational Church in Rowan. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army, and stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and in Germany. Larry was honorably discharged in 1955, and he and Wilma made their home near Rowan, where Larry began farming. Working first with the Frohlings and Wilma's father, then later for himself, farming and welding were Larry's lifelong pursuits. He practiced his welding skill for many years at Bruns Machine & Welding in Rowan. Wilma and Larry made their home and raised their family on the family acreage northeast of Rowan. Larry was an active member of the Rowan community and a member of the Unite Church of Rowan. He served his church in numerous offices and capacities. A member of American Legion Andrew Whitten Post No. 159 in Rowan, Larry served as Commander. During years of service in the Rowan Lions Club, he headed up many chicken barbecues, served as club president , and as District Governor. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones and Warren Coleman Awards for service to Lions. Of all his accomplishments, none were more important to him than his family. Larry had an abiding love for them, and his pride shone bright. His life awards were that of husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; his children, Beth Rydberg (Bruce) of Des Moines; Janice Booth (Wayne) of San Jose, California; Jeanette Morris (Jeff) of Radcliffe; Mark (Sharon) Aldrich of Lake Orion, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; Lena Rydberg-Freese (Brad), Kary Rydberg-Banasiak (Mike), Neal Rydberg, Joel Rydberg, Derek Booth, Alexander Booth, Jacob Morris, Tyler Aldrich, Austin Aldrich and Logan Aldrich; by sister Lois Beyer (Ray) of Rowan, brother Don (Kay) of Rowan and by numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and by many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Larry's honor to their family.
