Richard Carl Johnson, the son of Carl and Mabel (Baker) Johnson, was born June 7, 1924, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educate in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1942. Richard served in the United States Army Airborne, during W.W. II – March 30, 1943 until his honorable discharge February 5, 1946. On August 25, 1947, Richard was united in marriage with Mildred Harriett Burres, at Princeton, Missouri. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and were married for 63 years. Mildred preceded him death October 20, 2010. Richard worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1990. Richard was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers Local 407, V.F.W., and the American Legion Post 0304. Richard passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Bethany Manor in Story City, at the age of 86 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and David. Survivors include his sons, Ricky Johnson and wife Michelle of Ames and Jerry Peterson of Colorado, Springs, CO; two grandsons, Alec and Carson; brother, Roger Johnson and wife Janice of Kingman, AZ and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Johnson of Eagle Grove. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
