Gerald R. “Jerry” Draper, 84, of Mason City, died Sunday, December 12, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Ed Bard, Chaplain – Hospice of North Iowa officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, (December 15, 2010) at Major Erickson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Belmond, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gerald Draper memorial fund in care of the family.

Gerald was born December 21, 1925 in Blairsburg, IA, the son of William L. and Irene L. (Scott) Draper. He attended school in Dows, IA. He married Valva Nelson in August 1943, to which 6 children were born. He later married Eloise Meyers on September 24, 1965 in Glenville, MN. Gerald worked for Mitchell Transport for 20 years. He also did a lot of volunteer work in the Mason City area. He belonged to the Eagles, Moose Lodge, and the Elks. Gerald enjoyed camping and playing horseshoes. He spent his winters in San Juan, TX for 18 years. Gerald is survived by his wife of 45 years: Eloise Draper of Mason City; children: Larry Draper and wife Cheryl of South Jordan, UT, Judy Huth and husband Bob of Las Vegas, NV, Jean Scholl and husband Mike of Mason City, and Becky Peters of Austin, MN; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 1 brother: Virgil Draper and wife Opal of Belmond, IA; 1 sister: Deloris Story of Dows; his nieces and nephews: Gary Draper of Randall, IA, Diane Lieberknecht and husband Dave of Belmond, Janice Draper of Clear Lake, Marilyn Hanson of Klemme, IA, Susan Graham and husband Ron of Garner, Roberta Chapula and husband Dennis of Newton, IA, and Roger Story of Missouri. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Timothy, 3 daughters: Nancy, Kathy, and Linda.
