Eagle Grove/Thor– Marjorie Arlene Olsen, the daughter of Andrew and Rachel (Gertie) Johnson, was born September 3, 1927, on the family farm near Thor. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1946. She then worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge as a Nurse’s Aide. On November 15, 1946, Marjorie was united in marriage with Carl L. Olsen in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home near Vincent and moved to Marjorie’s family farm near Thor where they resided until moving to Eagle Grove in February of 2007. Carl and Marjorie liked traveling west for several winters to Needles, California and their many fishing trips to Canada. Marjorie was very fond of her time spent on the farm – she would help to haul grain and even drive the tractor. She was also known to bake great kringla and potato cakes. Marjorie was a member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church and the church circle.

Marjorie passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 83 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Lois Smith, June Worsey and Wanda Willard. Survivors include her husband, Carl L. Olsen of Eagle Grove; son, Gary Olsen and wife Sheryl of Omaha, NE; daughters, Cheryl Hansen and husband Daryl of Eagle Grove and Cindy Ohlerking and husband Pat of Charles City; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Arlo Johnson of Cedar Falls; brother-in-law, Archie Willard of Eagle Grove and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with Rev. H. W. Schiller officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery in Thor. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
