Ashkum Native Dies in Belmond, Iowa

ASHKUM, IL -- Funeral services for George Kellogg Comstock, 73, were held Friday, September 23, at the Assembly of God church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Rev. Huffy officiated and military rites were conducted by the Storm Lake Legion Post. A prayer service preceded in the morning at Johnston Funeral Home, Belmond, Iowa, with Rev. M. L. Jones officiating.

Mr. Comstock, the son of C. H. and Adelia Comstock, was born March 5, 1887, at Ashkum and received his secondary schooling in Ashkum and Bourbonnais. In 1909 he graduated from Valparaiso (Ind.) University, receiving the degree of Master of Accounts. He was a member of the Congregational church in Ashkum in his youth, but later was baptized and became a member of the Assembly of God church in Storm Lake, where he held his membership until his death. Mr. Comstock was in the grain business at Ashkum for several years before moving to a farm he purchased north of Sulphur Springs, Ia., where he assisted his sons Charles and Vernon in farming. Later he purchased a farm north of Eagle Grove, where they farmed for about 10 years. This summer he had been assisting his son Vernon on the farm near Belmond. Monday evening, September 19, he went out to the bean field to look over the crop. When he did not return, the family became alarmed and began to search for him. Failing to find him, they called for help and the Sheriff of Wright County organized a search party. The body was found at the edge of the bean field. Dr. Robert Eaton, Wright County Coroner, revealed that a heart attack was responsible for his death.

Survivors include his wife, two sons and a daughter, June Rose Hoescher of Kirkland, Washington; four grandsons and two granddaughters.
