Mrs. E. D. Miller Dies at 83

Mrs. E. D. (Katie) Miller, 83 lifelong resident of the Webster City community, died at 10:15 P.M. Saturday at her home nine miles northeast of Webster City. She had been in ill health since Feb. 20, 1955. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Foster funeral home, preceded by a brief service at 1:15 P.M. at the Family home. The Rev. A. E. Rau will officiate, with burial in the Cass Center cemetery. The body was taken to the family home at 2 P.M. today and will lie in state there until the time of services Wednesday.

Katie Dorthea Singer, daughter of Anton and Marie Singer, was born August 11, 1874, in a log cabin on a farm south of Webster City. She was reared and educated in the schools of Hamilton county. She was united in marriage May 1, 1893, to Edward D. Miller by the Rev. L. N. Call of Webster City. After their marriage, they started housekeeping on the Miller homestead northeast of Webster City, which has always been the family home. On May 1, 1943, Mr. and Mrs Miller celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her husband who died Oct. 28, 1947; by twin daughters, Tressie and Jessie, who died in infancy; one son, Edward W. Miller, who died May 16, 1956; by her parents, four brothers and five sisters; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Rosy Berleen of Webster City; Mrs. Bryan (Mary) Griffin of Buffalo Center, and Miss Erma Miller, at home; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Anton Singer of Webster City and Mrs. Susie Chesemore of Ludell, Kans., and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the Mulberry Center Evangelical United Brethren church. She was superintendent of the Sunday school for 12 years and was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years. She had served in all branches of the Helping Hand club of the church.
