EDDIE ALBERTS KILLED IN ACTION

WAS FIRST DICKINSON COUNTY BOY TO BE KILLED BY GUNS IN FRANCE

Dickinson county citizens were again shocked and saddened on Monday when a message was received by H. E. Alberts of Lake Park, while attending a meeting of the board of supervisors here that his son, Eddie Alberts had been killed in action on the Western front, October 2nd. While of late Dickinson county has been called upon to grieve over the death of many of her sons in the army camps from the epidemic of influenza and pneumonia, yet Eddie Alberts is the first among the boys from Dickinson county to give up his life while in action on the battle front. The news caused a great gloom to settle over northern Dickinson county as Eddie was a young man of sterling worth and popular among his associates and friends.

Eddie Alberts was born February 19, 1893 at Sheffield, Illinois. In 1901 he moved with his parents to Dows, Iowa, where they resided for several years. In 1907 they moved to Dickinson county and settled on a farm near Montgomery, Iowa. He was a faithful employ at the elevator in Montgomery for some three years. Previous to his departure for the Military service he was employed at the Montgomery store now conducted by W. A. Yager. He was in the September draft of 1917 and left here September 26th for Camp Dodge where he was in training for several months sailing for France in March.

Just last Friday Mr. and Mrs. Alberts received a letter from him saying he was well and in fine spirits. He spoke of having been on the front lines and then was back for a rest. Beside the father and mother he leaves four brothers and five sisters to mourn his death.
