BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Carol A. Bugenhagen, age 71, of Black River Falls died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Black River Memorial Hospital under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.

Carol Ann Scott was born on Sept. 23, 1939, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to William J. and Dorothy (Lewis) Scott. She graduated from high school in Charles City, Iowa, and then graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital/Coe College School of Nursing. She later received her four-year BSN degree from Alverno College in Milwaukee where she had the distinction of being the class speaker for her graduation. She married Jon L. Bugenhagen in May of 1962 in Charles City. Jon and Carol lived in Grantsburg, Wis., Hayward, Wis., and Spooner, Wis., before settling in Black River Falls in 1977.

Carol had been employed as a registered nurse at the University of Iowa Hospital operating room, the U.S. Army 24th Infantry Division Hospital in Augsburg, Germany, hospitals in Ladysmith, Shawano, and Grantsburg, and a clinic in Spooner. After settling in Black River Falls, she became employed as a registered nurse at Black River Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Tomah. She was a member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Karner Blue Garden Club. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, sewing, fishing, travel, picking wild blueberries and Packer football. She also was an avid conversationalist.

Survivors include her husband, Jon; two sons, Garth (Kalyn) Bugenhagen of Kaukauna, Wis., and Eric Bugenhagen of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Jack Lewis Bugenhagen and Kylie Marie Bugenhagen; a sister, Virginia Zimmerman of Villages, Fla.; and other relatives and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Dorothy Scott.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Eric Bakken will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Buswell Funeral Home in Black River Falls and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until services. Memorials may be given to the Karner Blue Garden Club or Black River Memorial Hospice.
