Polk City, IA -- Darl Keith Simpson, 77, died on October 17, 2010 at Polk City Nursing & Rehab. Mr. Simpson was born on January 13, 1933 in Clarion. He retired from Northwestern Bell. Darl was a military veteran and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post #49, and served as Past State Commander, Past District Commander and was involved in Boy's State. He was also a member of 40/8 and a former council member in Dallas Center.

Darl is survived by wife of 54 years, JoAnn, Polk City; children, Diane (Gerald) Madison of Ankeny, and David (Peggy) Simpson of Ft. Drum, NY; grandchildren, Jeremy Madison of Madison, WI, Megan Madison of Ankeny, Tiffany (Francis) Reynolds of Rodman, NY, and Erika Simpson of Ft. Drum, NY.

Per his wishes, Darl was cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, October 23 at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines). Friends may call from Noon until the time of service at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends. Inurnment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
