GARNER, IA - Ellen L. Sobek, 66, of Garner, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 21, at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., today, Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Ellen Louise Sobek, the daughter of John and Reva (Elder) Waddingham, was born on Dec. 20, 1943, in Belmond. She attended Klemme Public Schools, graduating in 1961. Following high school, she attended beauty school at La'James in Mason City. On Oct. 22, 1966, she was married to Roger Sobek at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. They lived in Klemme and Garner. Ellen operated her own beauty salon and later worked as a cook at Duncan Heights, Prairie View Apartments and Garner-Hayfield Community Schools. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, camping, golfing and was an avid Elvis Presley fan. She also loved baking and cooking and was well known for her pies and potato salad. Ellen was a good friend to many and a special aunt to Megan, Brooke and Ben. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme.
Ellen is survived by her five brothers, Bill (Rosalie) Waddingham of Garner, Tom (Janice) Waddingham of Thornton, David (Marie) Waddingham of Garner, Bruce (Cheryl) Waddingham of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Ray Waddingham of Garner; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, on May 1, 1998; and her parents. Cataldo Funeral Chapel.
