Former Resident Dies At Clarion

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 5 at the Eyler Funeral Home, Clarion, for Eldon L. Volkman, 63. He died Saturday, June 1, at the Clarion Memorial Hospital. Pastor Richard Larson officiated. Burial was in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Mr. Volkman was born September 15, 1904, adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Volkman of Nora Springs. He was married at Nora Springs, to Erna Benzel, Dec. 30, 1926. The family farmed in the Nora Springs and Rockford area until 1944, when they moved to Clarion where Eldon was employed as a mechanic for years. His age and failing health caused him to retire a few years ago, but he still remained active, working in a service station and part time work during the rush season on farms, until the terminal illness which caused his death June 1.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Volkman, a sister, Mrs. George McDonald of Remington, Va., son Gerald Volkman, daughter, Mrs Kenneth Squier of Nora Springs, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
