February 20, 1914 -- July 12, 2002

Lyle C. Stokesbary, 88, of Bremerton, Washington died July 12, 2002, of congestive heart failure at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale. He had been a Silverdale resident for 56 years. He was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Corwith, Iowa, to Clint and Ada Stokesbary. He married Vivian Burton on June 18, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2000. Mr. Stokesbary served in the Army from 1945 to 1948, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He received his GED through Bremerton High School in 1952. He went on to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years, retiring as chief fire inspector in 1972. Mr. Stokesbary was a Mason and a member of the Methodist church. He enjoyed hiking in the Olympic Mountains.

Survivors include two sons, Lynn of Kirkland and Bill of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Sandra Dunlap of Bremerton; a brother, Marvin Stokesbary of Minnesota; four sisters, Ruth Law, Bonnie Osnes and Maxine Upmeyer, all of Iowa, and Phyllis Devens of Arizona; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred, and two brothers, Burt and Glenn.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kitsap Golf and Country Club, 3885 Golf Club Hill Road in Bremerton. Memorial donations may be made to Jackson Hall Memorial Association (Silverdale Scout Hall), P.O. Box 1489, Silverdale, WA 98383.
