Sophia Sillman Dies at Britt After Stroke
BRITT, IA -- Mrs. William (Sophia) Sillman, 81, died Monday at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital where she had been since suffering a stroke Sept. 24. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church here preceded by a prayer service for the immediate family at the Boughton Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Jones will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Born in Germany, Sept. 16, 1877, she was the daughter of Henry and Johanna Frohm Holck. They came to Lake Park, Dickenson County, when she was 4 and later to the Britt-Corwith area. She was married Aug. 25, 1895, to William Sillman. They farmed northwest of Britt.
Surviving are five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Lyle (Anna) Fox, Britt; Mrs. George (Martha) Chapman, Mason City; George, Britt; Mrs. Cecil (Sophia) Naser, Lake Mills; Mrs. Ed (Cleo) Clein, Britt; Edward, Britt and Dorothy, at home; 26 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. Three brothers, Henry, Adolph and Fred Holck, Britt and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Walk, Kanawha and Mrs. Vena Lacock, Britt also survive. She was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and Harold, three brothers and one sister.
