Elva D. Eenhuis, 84, passed away Aug. 13, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Jeanette Dodd, in Lake Mills. Memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 16, at the Forest City United Methodist church with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Music was provided by soloists Bruce Wubben and Rev. Gary Marzolf, and organist Bonnie Peterson. Elva, the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Farrell) Shelton, was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Corwith. She received her education in the Corwith schools. On Sept. 19, 1934 she was united in marriage to Louis B. Eenhuis near Garner. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Forest City for many years. Elva was a dedicated mother and wife, spending time raising her children, baking for family and church, sewing and gardening. She loved music, played the harmonica, and in her younger years liked to go dancing. She and her husband enjoyed playing cards with friends and she treasured time spent with her grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Mike Eenhuis and his wife, Denise, Wakefield, Kansas; Margaret Nielsen and her husband, Harold, Crystal Lake; Esther Taylor and friend, Bill Kirschbaum, Leland; Joretta Riggle and her husband Walter, Glenville, Minn.; Jeanette Dodd, Lake Mills; and Mary Thompson and her husband, Marshall, Lake Mills; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Shelton, Deland, Fla.; and a sister, Mildred Hulberg, Sauk City, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; sons, Lyle and Robert; daughter, Lila; brother, Jim Shelton; and sister, Lenora Carpenter.
