Goldfield, IA --Linda Lou Babcock, the daughter of Alfred “Pete” F. and Evelyn “Evie” F. (Nolte) Wheeler, was born March 16, 1936, in Goldfield, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1953. Linda also attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, majoring in music. Linda has lived most of her life on the Wheeler – Babcock Century Farm near Goldfield. Linda married Marvin D. Babcock, the couple later divorced. Linda worked a short time for Globe Union in Fort Dodge and later for various companies, including Farm Land Premix Plant and Co-op Propane Gas in Eagle Grove and Kanawha Co-op Oil, as a bookkeeper. Linda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield, serving as treasurer, in U.M.W. and as church organist for over 50 years. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society, knitting, genealogy, flower gardening, traveling to see family and friends and computers – emailing, Facebook and making cards.

Linda passed away at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the age of 74 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clinton Wheeler in 1955 and son, William D. Babcock in 1988. Survivors include her son, Barry E. Babcock of Goldfield; daughter, Valerie L. Harvey of Goldfield; grandson, Anthony D. Babcock and wife Stacy of Britt; 3 granddaughters: Christina D. Ackerman and husband Jeremy of Corwith, Melissa G. Howard of Minneapolis, MN and Afton R. Harvey of Cedar Falls; 4 great-grandchildren: Gavyn and Halo Gronbach and Autumn and Emorie Babcock and long-time family friend, Louise Lester of Goldfield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Pastor Truman Larson officiating. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
