Larry Lee Thorn was born on September 22, 1936, at LuVerne, Iowa to James and Velma Ramus Thorn. Along with his mother, Larry was raised by Chuck and Virginia Sorensen and Joe and Vera Thorn. He received his early education in Corwith and LuVerne. Larry then served his country in the Marine Corps from 1954 until 1957. Larry attended Junior College in Estherville, Iowa for 2 years. He was married to Sharon Bruns on December 27, 1959, at Spirit Lake, Iowa. The couple lived in Mankato, Minnesota, where Larry graduated from Mankato State College with a B.A. Degree in Social Studies, with a core in History. He sold the business in 1981, after his wife’s death, and moved to Butterfield, Minnesota, where he farmed until his retirement in the mid 1990’s, due to failing health. Larry enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. He also loved animals. Larry enjoyed fixing and restoring things, but his greatest joy in life was his family and he spent many hours watching his children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities, especially wrestling.
