Jean Eleanor Murr, age 79, of Iowa City, died on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Mercy Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, in the recreation room at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. On-street parking will be available for those attending. Private burial will be at the Bingham Township Cemetery in Woden, Iowa. Memorials may be given to St. Luke's Hospital and sent to St. Luke's Hospital Foundation at 1026 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52406.
Jean was born April 16, 1924, in Woden, Iowa, to Charles and Pearl Rudisill Murr. She attended school and graduated from Corwith High School, Corwith, Iowa, in 1941. Jean worked as a dental assistant in Algona, Iowa, and Spencer, Iowa, for several years before attending St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1949 with an RN degree. She started her nursing career at St. Luke's, where she became head nurse in the medical ward for 10 years. She then joined the University of Iowa hospital school as a nursing supervisor for the second shift. She was with the hospital school for over 20 years. Jean has been a resident of Oaknoll Retirement Residence since 1997. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, the Fifth District Nurses Association and the St. Luke's Alumni Association.
Her family includes her brother, Charles, and his wife, Mary Murr, of Sun City West, Ariz.; and a niece, Janet Cane, nephews, David and Scott Murr, all of the Seattle area; and many friends. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jean's service and her family.
