COLFAX, IL -- Jack R. Messamore, 76, of Colfax died at 1:46 p.m. Saturday (June 11, 2005) at his residence in Colfax. A graveside service for family and friends will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Patty Cemetery, McDowell. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Colfax United Methodist Church. The Rev. Diane Yentes will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Colfax. Memorials may be made to OSF St. Joseph Hospice program, 2416 E. Washington St., Suite B, Bloomington, IL 61701.
Mr. Messamore was born June 10, 1929, at Corwith, Iowa, a son of Clarence and Irene (Boyer) Messamore. He married Phyllis Knopp on Dec. 14, 1951, in Bloomington. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Dennis, Bloomington; Michael, Colfax; and Eric, Chicago; two daughters, Barbara (Charles) Trudeau, Allen, Texas; and Lisa (Terry) Whitecotton, Hudson; five grandchildren, Nicole, Naethan and Justin Messamore, and Jessica and Amanda Trudeau; and one sister, Virginia Ringel, Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Messamore was a longtime resident of Colfax, where he was employed by the village of Colfax as superintendent of public works for 25 years. He retired in 2001. He also was a volunteer fireman for the Octavia fire district for 20 years. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, telling humorous stories and the company of his family and friends, who will miss him greatly.
