December 29, 2003Alan S. Brown "Brownie", 85, of Everson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec 23, 2003. His wife of 64 years, Freda was by his side. Born March 1, 1918 to Earl and Hazel Brown in Musselshell, MT Alan moved to Iowa in 1921. He married Freda Beth Warder on March 25, 1939 in Corwith IA. Alan and Freda moved to Washington in 1944 and settled in Nooksack in 1947 and retired to Everson in 1981. Alan was employed at the Mobil Oil Refinery in Ferndale from 1954 until his retirement in 1979. Alan and Freda are members of the Nooksack Valley Baptist Church. In his early days, "Brownie" was a frequent visitor at the Everson Golf course and most recently enjoyed the fellowship of the "Dunny's coffee crew" and friendly staff at Applebees. Brownie was well known for his friendly greeting to all and his love for driving around the countryside.
He will be missed by those who love him: wife Freda of Everson, son Carroll Brown and wife Cherri, of Snohomish. Daughters Beth Chowen and husband Terry of Everett, Suzan Williams and husband Dale of Bellingham and Colleen Higbee and husband Robert of Everett. Grandsons: Clark Williams, Jeremy Williams, Trevor Chowen, Doug Higbee, David Brown, Brian Schend and James Schend. Granddaughters: Jill Workman, Melissa Lawson, Jodie Hansen, Sarah Brown, Tara Rowland and Molly Brown. He was called "Big Grampa" by his nine great grandchildren: Caitlyn, Ben, Conor, Chad, Max, Cormac, Febe, David and little Graham who will arrive in April 2004.
Memorials may be sent to Everson Volunteer Fire Dept PO Box 454 Everson, WA 98247 or Nooksack Valley Baptist Church PO Box 308 Everson, WA 98247. Graveside services will be at Nooksack Cemetery on Monday, December 29 at 1:15 p.m. with services following at Nooksack Valley Baptist Church 1208 East Main Street Everson. Viewing will be at Gillies Funeral Home Sunday, December 28 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
