BELMOND, IA - Effie Olson, 96, of Belmond and Alexander, passed away Monday (Aug. 30, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Effie Olson will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at the Alexander Cemetery. Burial will take place in the cemetery. Visitation for Effie Olson will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond

Effie, the daughter of Henry and Gertie Modderman Bohman, was born on Nov. 9, 1913, on the family farm near Alexander. Effie attended Alexander Consolidated School through the 10th grade, at which time she began to help out on the family farm. Effie married Arnie Olson of Meservey on June 12, 1935. To this union five children where born. They lived on the family farm north of Alexander until 1948 when they moved to their present farm northeast of Alexander. Arnie passed away March 19, 1997, and Effie continued to live on the farm until October 2004, when she entered the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. She enjoyed good health and took part in all the activities until January 2010 when she fell and broke her hip, which confined her to a wheel chair.

Effie is survived by her children, Gladys (Lowell) Peterson of Altoona; Oliver (Eleanor) Olson of Port Orange, Fla.; Arleen DeMoss of Cedar Rapids; Edward (Karen) Olson of Loveland, Colo.; and Arlen (Bonnie) Olson of Alexander; six grandchildren, Carla Clark; Keith (Rose) Peterson; Laurie (Jerry) Dietrich; Bill (Valerie) DeMoss; Roxann (Owen) Evans; and Travis Olson. Six great-grandchildren: Matt Clark; Eric Peterson; Claire Peterson; Bryce Evans; Abigail Evans; and Keaton DeMoss. Sister-in-law, Alberta Bohman along with several nieces and nephews. Effie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnie; brothers, John Henry and Bernard George; sister-in-law, Norma Bohman; sons-in-law, Jerry Moore and Earl DeMoss; and infant grandsons, Alan Moore and Zachary Olson.
