April 28, 1947 -- February 21, 2008

Iowa City, IA -- Jim R. Grifhorst, 60, of 1314 Carroll Street, died on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at UIHC of cardiac complications. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Monday, at the Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mark Pries officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. Friends were able to call on Sunday from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, and after 1:00 p.m., on Monday, at the Church.

Jim was born on April 28, 1947 in Mason City, the son of Richard and Wilma Brand Grifhorst. In 1970 Jim received his bachelor degree in business from the University of Iowa. Jim married Linda Wilbur on September 12, 1970 in Iowa City. Jim was a data base analyst for the College of Business Administration at the University of Iowa. Jim was a devoted father, grandfather and friend. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim was an Eagle Scout and avid Hawkeye fan. When his sons were growing up Jim was a soccer coach and Cub Scout leader. Jim volunteered at Big Brothers-Big Sisters and Shelter House. He will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his three sons, B.J. of Tempe, Arizona, Kevin, (Heather) and their son, Carver of Cross Plains, Wisconsin and David of Madison, Wisconsin; Linda Grifhorst and Mickie Wiegand; his mother, Wilma of Britt; his brother, Paul of Aurora, Illinois; his sister, Lois (Wendel) Harms of Ankeny; and nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his father.
