Betty Lou Hope, age 83, of Lake Mills, most recently of Huxley, Iowa, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Betty Lou Hope was born March 12, 1927, to Samuel and Inger Theressa {Olson) Murley near Britt, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Kanawha Lutheran Church. She graduated from Britt High School and from La James Beauty College in Mason City. On February 24, 1947, Betty was united in marriage with Stanley Hope at Kanawha Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Scarville and Britt areas. She operated her own beauty shop for seven years. She was employed by the Graphic newspaper in Lake Mills for many years and later worked part-time for the US Post Office in Scarville until her retirement. She had recently moved to the Ballard Creek assisted living facility in Huxley, Iowa.

Betty loved her family. She was so proud of her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Chad Olson and wife Emily and Connor, Carter and Catherine of Ames, IA; Cory Olson of Waco, NE; Matt Hope of Ames, IA; Stephanie Summy and husband Jeff and Jackson, Grant and Cooper of Deerfield, IL. Betty often talked about the joy of being blessed with two sets of twins within one year.

Betty was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran church. She was involved in many volunteer activities in her church and her community. She enjoyed baking, quilting, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made quilts for her grandchildren’s high school graduations. A lifelong dream came true when Betty and Stanley made a trip to Norway to visit Stanley’s parents’ homeland.

She is survived by a son Maury (Linda) Hope of Ankeny, IA; daughter Kris (Dale) Olson of Ames, IA; grandchildren, Chad Olson, Cory Olson, Matthew Hope, Stephanie Summy; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gladys Olson of Forest City, IA; brother-in-law, Obed of Mason City, IA; brother-in-law, George of Ogden, IA; sister-in-law, Clara Warren in California as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, parents, and one sister, Blanche Gelner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 23, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place at Crystal Lake Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake, Iowa. Visitation for Betty will be on Sunday, August 22, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the family. Mittelstadt Funeral Home.
