Eagle Grove Woman's Funeral to Be Friday

EAGLE GROVE, Jan. 3 — Mrs. Jerome Broeffle, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Harry Cragg Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the Kubitschek and Kastler funeral home Friday afternoon at 2. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Alex Blue of Pekin IL., Mrs. Wiley Eberhardt of Tama and Mrs. Harry Cragg of Eagle Grove. She was born in Canada.

Mary, the daughter of Mark and Almira (Reynolds) Tilton, was born in Lineville, Quebec, of American ancestry, Sept. 9, 1847, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Cragg of Eagle Grove, Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 2, 1935, her age being 87 years, 3 months, 23 days.

When very young she moved with her family to New York state, where the father died when she was six years of age. Much of her young womanhood was spent in Illinois. She was married November 8, 1865, to Jerome B. Broeffle at West Quincy, Mo., and they immediately began housekeeping at Macon, Mo. They resided at Macon for sixteen years, moving from there to the Broeffle homestead ten miles east of Eagle Grove in August 1881. They came to Eagle Grove in September, 1882, where they built a home at the corner of No. Lucas and Dakota streets, which, was their home until his death, January 15, 1912.

Three girls were born to this union, Mrs. Harry Cragg of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Alex Blue of Pekin, Ill., and Mrs. Wiley Eberhart of Tama, Ia., who with 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a half sister, Mrs. William Cotton, and numerous nephews and nieces survive to mourn their loss.

She was one of the oldest members of the Congregational church. She was also one of the earliest members of the local Rebekah lodge being an honorary member at the time of her death.
