February 2, 1909 - March 28, 1998

ALEXANDER, IA — Doris E. Dorenkamp, 89, died Saturday (March 28, 1998) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Reformed Church, Alexander, with the Rev. Gerald Norman and the Rev. Forrest Harms officiating. Burial will take place at the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and at the church one hour prior to services.

Doris E. Dorenkamp was born on February 2, 1909, in Franklin County to Chris and Louella Larsen. She graduated from Alexander High School in 1926 and attended Iowa State Teachers College where she acquired her teaching degree. She taught in a rural school in the Alexander area. On August 27, 1927, Doris Larsen married Ben Dorenkamp at Albert Lea, Minn. The couple had two sons, Daryl and Ken. Doris and her husband farmed in rural Alexander until they retired in 1976 and moved into town. Doris had lived in Alexander her whole life. She was active in the First Reformed Church where she was a member of the church guild and she taught catechism. She was a member of the Cemetery Society and worked at the library for some time.

She is survived by her son, Ken Dorenkamp, and his wife, Sandra, of Alexander; two grand-daughters, Jacqueline Bock of Belmond, and Kendra Dorenkamp of Alexander; four grandsons, Arnold Dorenkamp of Hanlontown, Daryl Dorenkamp of Coulter, Steven Dorenkamp of West Des Moines, and Dan Dorenkamp of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Leda Schofield, and her husband, Denver, of Rockwell, Emily Modderman of Redwood City, Calif, and Hazel Bachman of Clear Lake; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; son, Daryl in 1959; husband, Ben in 1980; two sisters, Gertrude and Theo; and two brothers, Lyle and Russel.
