April 29, 1948 -- December 9, 1998

DONNA, Texas — Barbara K. Wood, 50, formerly of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Dec. 9, 1998) at home in Donna, Texas, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Her body was donated to the University of Texas for medical research. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Evangelical Free Church, Britt, with the Rev. William Culbertson officiating.

Barbara was born April 29, 1948, in Melrose City, Minn., to Delbert and Emilie (Bosshardt) Gamradt. She graduated salutatorian of her class from Sauk Centre schools in 1966. She received her bachelor of arts degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota in Morris in 1970. She was united in marriage to Ralph Pohlmann Sept. 1, 1970. They had two children, Lori and Michael. They lived in the Klemme area for 10 years; during this time Barbara was a substitute teacher and also a hostess at the Prairie View Apartments in Garner. Barbara was an active member of the Klemme American Legion Auxilliary and also taught Sunday school and was a member of The United Methodist Church of Klemme. On Nov. 28, 1985, she was united in marriage to Stephen Wood. While Stephen was in the Navy, they were stationed in Charleston, S. C. and Newport, R. I.

Barbara worked as office manager of The Sakonnet Times newspaper in Portsmouth, R.I. They retired in 1992 and traveled in their recreational vehicle to Montana and down to Louisiana and south Texas in the winters. They spent summers in Clear Lake and Sheffield. Her hobbies were reading, writing poetry, gardening, cooking, stamp collecting, crocheting and cross-stitching. Her favorite things to do were watch birds and NASCAR races (Dale Earnhardt's No. 1 fan). She enjoyed fishing and being around nature, picking shells up off the beach and listening to the birds sing.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Stephen, of Donna, Texas; her daughter, Lori and her husband, Dennis Ostercamp, of Britt; her son, Michael, of Tiverton, Mass.; stepchildren, Doug and Debbie Wood; her parents, Delbert and Emilie Gamradt, of Sauk Centre, Minn.; her mother -in-law and father-in-law, Leo and Mary Wood, of Garner; her sister, Cheryl and her husband, Vic Blasing, of Motley, Minn.; her brother, Larry Gamradt, his wife, Jeanne, and their children, Kevin,Karen, Kimberly and Karla; her brother, Richard Gamradt, of Sioux Falls, S. D.; and many friends and her two cats. Barbara was preceded in death by her grandparents. Memorials may be sent to Route 4 Box 375-25, Donna, Texas 78537.
