Rosetta Blumer, 85, LuVerne, died on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne, with Rev. Henry Friedrich officiating. Burial was in LuVerne Cemetery.

Rosetta Anna Gifford, the daughter of John and Meta (Tietz) Gifford, was born on April 23, 1925, in Lotts Creek. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lotts Creek and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burt by Pastor L. Richmann. She attended country school near Burt and received her GED at the age of 58. Rosetta did housekeeping for several years and worked at the ASCS office in Algona making maps. On Aug. 29, 1943 Rosetta was united in marriage with Robert G. H. Blumer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burt. They farmed for several years near LuVerne. They operated a dray service in the LuVerne area when freight was delivered by rail service. They also operated a feed store and feed milling service and Blumer Construction service in the 50s and 60s. Rosetta worked at the Corner Store in LuVerne in the 50s and again in the 70s. She also worked at the LuVerne Lanes Restaurant where she was famous for her wonderful cinnamon rolls. She also answered the telephones for the Blake Funeral Homes and LuVerne Ambulance Service.

Bob and Rosetta lived in Eagle Grove for several years before moving back to LuVerne in 1970. They operated Blumer Harness for many years where Rosetta made chaps and leather vests for the shop as well as keeping the books. Rosetta was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne where she was active in LWML, taught Sunday School for many years and served on the Altar Guild. In her younger years she sang in the church choir. Rosetta enjoyed painting, quilting, antiques, crossword puzzles, reading and morning coffee with her dear friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family, friends and church functions. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life in recent years.

Left to cherish Rosetta’s memory is her son, Timothy Blumer and his wife Sheri and their daughter Amy (Dave) Kapler, great-grandson Andrew and daughter Alison (Leony) Kaster all of Cedar Rapids; a son, David Blumer and granddaughter Kathryn of Ames; grandson Ross (Addie) Blumer and great-granddaughter Sarah of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter, Jackie Kapustynski and her husband Paul and grandsons Kyle and Trevor of Osage; a granddaughter Heather Kapustynski and great-grandchildren, Cody and Carley Nielson of Garner; sisters, Leona (Gene) Larson of Fenton, Deloris (Elvin) Boeckholt of Titonka, Lucille (Junior) Faber of Bancroft, Karen (Neil) Wuebben of Osage, Diana (Larry) Bunkofske of Burt; brothers, Richard (Liz) Gifford of Slater and Donnie (Bobbi) Gifford of Garner; brothers-in-law, Harley Boeckholt of Titonka and Perry Gross of Leland; sisters-in-law, Arla Gifford of Algona, Elaine Gifford of Burt, Mary Gifford of Burt, Mary Jo Gifford of Bancroft, Beverly (Richard) Wilcox of Humboldt and Sandy (Frank) Gunning of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1996; eight siblings; and six brothers and sisters-in-law. Rosetta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her faith in Christ was her strength and this carried her through life’s journey. The Lentz Funeral Home in Algona is serving the family.
