Eugene E. Johnson, 56, of Atkins died Thursday at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. He was born Dec. 7, 1925, at Klemme, Iowa, and married Virginia Matson on July 7, 1951, at Nashua, Iowa. He was a security guard at Amana Refrigeration. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Michael and Joe, both of Francisville, La., and Frank, San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Doug Meskimen, Shellsburg, and Mrs. Bud Williams, Prescott, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Blanche Hindman, El Cajon, Calif.; one brother, Dwaine Johnson, Marshalltown; a half-brother, Robert Brown, Lakeside, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Carl Swearingen, Clarion, Iowa.

He was a member off St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Atkins, and zone president of the Lutheran Layman's League. He was also a member of the A.H. Schuler Post 217 of the American Legion, Atkins. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Robert Hedtke. Graveside services and burial: 2:30 p.m. Monday, Rose Hill Cemetery, Marshalltown. Friends may call at the church from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from noon until service time Sunday. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, Philips of Vinton. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stephen's choir fund.

Eugene Johnson, 56, of Atkins, Iowa died Thursday, November 4,1982 in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Eugene was born December 7, 1925 in Klemme, Iowa. His parents are George and Blanche (Medaus) Johnson. He was reborn in the waters of Holy Baptism in January of 1926, also in Klemme. He grew in his Christian faith until the age of Confirmation. He then began a life of regularly communing at the Sacrament of the Altar. He married Virginia Matson on July 7,1951. Eugene was employed as a security guard at Amana; he served in the Army through World War II and is presently a member of the A.H. Schueler American Legion Post # 217. They became members here at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in July of 1973. Gene has been active in Fellowship Club. He has been the Lutheran Laymen's League representative of the congregation for years. He presently is the Zone chairman of the L.L.L. The exercise of his Christian faith was extremely important to Eugene.

Preceding him in death is his father, George Johnson. Eugene is survived by his wife, Virginia of Atkins; three sons, Michael and Joe of St. Francisville, Louisiana and Frank, stationed in San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Doug (Margaret) Meskimen of Shellsburg, and Mrs. Bud (Gloria) Williams of Prescott, Iowa: one sister, Mrs. Carl (Emily) Swearingen of Clarion, Iowa; one brother, Dwaine Johnson of Marshalltown, Iowa; one half-brother, Robert H. Brown of Lakeside, California and his mother, Mrs. Blanche Hindman of El Cajon, California; and twelve grandchildren.
