MANLY, IA — Selenda Josephine Larsen, 86, of Manly died Friday (July 1, 2005) at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Josephine was born on May 18, 1919, in Onawa, the daughter of Eugene and Kittie (Holland) Wilkinson. At the age of 3, Josephine and her family moved to Mason City. She attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Thompson on Aug. 20, 1940, in Northwood, Iowa. Josephine and Robert then moved to Clear Lake and returned to Mason City in 1949. Robert died on Sept. 26, 1966. Josephine was united in marriage to Merle Kalvig on June 5, 1971, in Mason City, where they lived until moving in 1982 to Manly, where they lived until Merle's death in 1989. Josephine was united in marriage to Raymond Larsen on Dec. 16, 1990, in Mason City.
She worked as a dispatcher for two years at Barnes Trucking and in the Diet Kitchen at Mercy Hospital for two years. Josephine was a member of the First Congregational Church in Mason City where she worked in the nursery for 25 years. She was also a member of the "Kitchen Klatter Band" out of Alexander, Iowa, for 14 years. Josephine was an avid collector of dolls, owls, pitchers and bowls. She loved to spend time with her family and attend family gatherings.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Larsen of Alexander; daughter, Judith Cummings and husband Arthur of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Sgt. First Class Dixie Thompson, U.S. Army Retired, of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Sally Jo Osborn and husband Bobby of Prague, Okla.; sister, Maxine Ziemann of Mason City; sister, Aileen Griffith of Mason City; sister, Darline Baack of Klemme; six grandchildren, Lisa Christensen of Indianapolis, Ind., Wilma Hanson-McCoy and husband Floyd of Lincoln, Neb., Patricia Lewis and husband R.D. of Davenport, Okla., Frank Osborn and wife Mary of Shawnee, Okla., Robert Thompson of Las Vegas, Nev. and David Thompson of Las Vegas, Nev.; 18 great-grandchildren; special family member, Tenny Hanson of Salinas, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, one brother, Eugene Wilkinson; and a half-brother, Albert Wilkinson. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory.
