Albert Lea Tribune, MinnesotaFuneral services for Helen A. Foster, age 85, of Ellendale, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, at the United Methodist Church in Ellendale. The Rev. David Brown will officiate. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Helen died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Infinia Nursing Home in Owatonna, Minnesota. Helen Annette Foster was born Oct. 23, 1916, to Carl A. and Annette (Freeman) Nelson in Rowan, Iowa. The family moved to the Ellendale area in 1918. Helen attended rural schools and Ellendale High School graduating in 1934. After two years of teacher's training, she taught school for a short time before being married. On June 5, 1941, Helen was united in marriage to Orvis Foster in Ellendale. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ellendale and had been active in many capacities in the church. Helen also enjoyed gardening and reading.
Survivors include her daughter, Frances Bakke and husband Orrin of Hastings and their children, Ann Brattain and husband David, Christopher Bakke, and Katherine Bakke; son, Mark Foster and wife Karol of Ellendale and their children, Michael Foster, Kurt Foster and wife Libby, Diana Beckmann and husband Mathew, Tony Foster, and Amy Foster; great-grandson, Nicholas Brattain; sister, Thelma Kraft of Cambridge, Minn.; brother, Lester Nelson and wife Marge of Wheatridge, Colo.; and nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orvis; brother, Raymond; and brother, Russell, in infancy.
