Donna Rae Kaduce was born August 7, 1946, in Mason City to Robert and Dorothy Irene (Sturgeon) Gretillat. She was the second child and the eldest daughter born to her parents. Donna was baptized at the Garner Methodist Church and lived on a farm north of Ventura. She was a member the Class of 1964, a graduate of Ventura High School. Donna was employed at Lustre Cleaners at the time of her first meeting with her future husband and love of her life, Junior J. Kaduce. On February 24, 1973, in Sioux Falls, S.D., Donna and Junior were united in marriage. Together, they enjoyed spending time looking for bargains at garage sales, sight-seeing while going for long drives and making crafts. The couple became the parents of two daughters. Prior to making their home in Mason City, Donna and Junior lived in Forest City for five years, Des Moines for eight years, where she was employed at IMT, California for a short time, Klemme, where she and Junior owned a restaurant for one year and Clear Lake for four years, where Donna enjoyed being involved with child care.
Donna was a devoted wife and nurturing mother and grandmother. Her family was of highest priority in her life and she was always willing to assist anyone in any capacity. Donna is described by her family as a loving and caring woman with a great sense of humor. Her grandchildren will fondly remember their grandmother as one who always provided them with a quality and fun time. Donna stated many times that, “her grandchildren were her world!” She loved spending “busy time” with her grandkids, whether it be baking, working on some type of craft or just being together. Donna’s husband, children and siblings recall that Donna had a talent of creating masterpieces in the kitchen. She had a passion for baking and cooking and her family recall specialties of beef and noodles, potato salad, chocolate creme pie and banana bread with chocolate chips. Donna’s favorite color was lavender, she collected angels and dolls, she treasured visiting with her family and friends and her favorite grilled food was hotdogs on a charcoal grill. She found a great calming and joy when viewing the flower gardens in her own yard, tended by her husband. Donna was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Mason City and assisted with kitchen duties at the Eagles until illness caused her to become disabled. Donna will be missed dearly by family and friends who have shared in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Junior Kaduce; her two daughters, Kathy (John) Brass and Buffy (Ralph) Ramon, all of Mason City; her three sisters, Sandy Iehl of Mason City, Carol (Mike) Snider of Klemme and Diane (Mark) Cooley of Lake Mills; her two brothers, Robert (Terri) Gretillat of Mason City and Tom (Ilene) Gretillat of Madrid, Iowa. She will also be sadly missed by her adoring grandchildren, Andrew Ramon, Nathan Brass, Ashley (Peanut) Brass, Chelsie Nairn and Jessica Brass and many other numerous relatives and friends. Preceding Donna in death are her parents, Robert and Dorothy Gretillat and her grandmother, Alta Sturgeon. Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
