KLEMME, IA -- Alta Grace Sturgeon, 94, of Klemme, died Friday (Aug. 29, 1997) at the Willow Creek Health Care Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jerry Robetson of the United Methodist Church in Klemme officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Rockwell. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the chapel.

Alta Grace Sturgeon was born on Sept. 3, 1902, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Thomas and Lottie (Van Horn) Barlow. she received her education in Cerro Gordo Community School and graduated in 1918. After completing her education, she worked at The Outing Club in Clear Lake. She was united in marriage to Russell Sturgeon in 1922. He preceded her in death in 1940. Alta also worked for many years as a clerk for the Clear Lake Bakery until her retirement in 1967. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, baking pies and canning fruits and vegetables. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, the church circles and Our Day Out Club, also in Klemme.

Survivors include two grandsons, Robert Gretillat and his wife, Terri, of Mason City, and Tom Gretillat and special friend, Robin, of Madrid; four granddaughters, Sandy Iehl of Mason City, Donna Kaduce and her husband, J.R., of Mason City, Carol Snider and her husband, Mike, of Klemme and Diane Cooley and her husband, Mark, of Lake Mills; eleven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Barlow of the Willow Creek Health Care Center in Mason City, as well as other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marjorie Sturgeon and Dorothy Gretillat; two great-grandchildren, Lisa Gretillat and Annalisa Cooley; one brother, Melvin; and one sister, Maude.
