DOUGLAS, WYO. -- Memorial services for Bradley Ray Humphrey, 32, of Douglas, Wyo., will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Garner. Brad died Sept. 1, 1995, while on an expedition called "Ocean to Ice Cap Expedition 1995" sponsored by the Wyoming Alpine Club of Laramie, Wyo. Brad and three other members of the expedition plus an Eskimo guide were on an 18-foot boat when a bow head whale overturned it. All were submerged in the Arctic waters. Brad and the three from Wyoming were overcome by the Arctic waters. The Eskimo guide was the only survivor. Search and rescue has not been able to locate the missing bodies.

Brad was born Feb. 10, 1963, at Britt and graduated from Centerville High School in 1981 and from Luther College in Decorah in 1985. He was employed by the U.S. Forest Service in Douglas, Wyo. as an archaeologist. Survivors include his parents, John Wendell and Linda Humphrey of 900 Mikels Drive, Centerville, Iowa 52544; a brother, Michael Humphrey of Louisville, Ky.; grandparents, Ray and Lou Fisher of Klemme and John and Helen Humphrey of Garner; plus a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many many friends. Memorials may be directed to the family in Brad's name where a scholarship has been established in his name at the Centerville High School. Brad will be lovingly remembered as a very loving, caring person and for his love of God's outdoors.
