KLEMME - Betty VanNurden, 77, formerly of Klemme, died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the United Methodist Church in Chatfield, Minn., with the Rev. Dennis Cox-Townsend officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme, with the Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, Minn., is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty VanNurden, 77, of Chatfield, a retired school cook, died March 20, 2001 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester where she had been a patient since March 12.

Betty Nuehring was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Liberty Township, Hancock County, rural Klemme, Iowa, grew up there and graduated from Klemme High School. On Oct. 9, 1945, she married Kenneth VanNurden in Litchfield, Minn. They lived in Litchfield before moving to Chatfield in 1966. Her husband died March 13, 1982. Mrs. VanNurden was a cook at Chosen Valley School in Chatfield. She was a member of the Chatfield United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and circle.

Survivors include four sons, Ronald (Lynn) of Owatonna, Duane (Renee) and Steven (Brenda), both of Rochester, and Wesley (Cathy) of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; four brothers, Morris (Margaret) Nuehring of Kanawha, Iowa, Dean (Elsie) Nuehring of Osage, Iowa, Keith (Wilma) Nuehring of Webster City, Iowa, and Ralph Nuehring of Klemme; and five sisters, Dorothy Brede, Clara Bier and Marie VerHelst, all of Klemme, Mavis Eckes of Long Prairie, Minn., and Inez (Bruce) Dunbar of Mason City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

The funeral for Betty VanNurden was held March 30, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Dennis Cox-Townsend officiating. Burial was in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme, Iowa. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
