GARNER _ Hattie E. Ridder, 96, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at the Concord Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Hattie Elizabeth Ridder, the daughter of Fred and Cecelia (Nesbit) Gates, was born Oct. 1, 1900 on a farm southeast of Garner. She attended the rural schools of Ell and Avery Townships. On Feb. 10, 1921 she was married to Ben Ridder at the home of her parents in Ingram, Wis. in a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister, Mattie, who married Ben Riemer. Hattie and Ben farmed in Liberty Township, west of Klemme, and purchased a farm in 1941. They farmed for 38 years and in 1959 retired and moved to Klemme. She enjoyed helping others, taking them to appointments and helping them in their homes. Hattie was a faithful member of the Liberty Township Methodist Church and later at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. She was also a member of the Klemme American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Gast of Garner; a son, Elwyn Ridder and his wife, Avalon of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Kathryn Hefti and her husband, Harold, and their daughter, Janessa of Baxter, Minn., Doran Gast and his wife, Marilyn and their sons, Clifford and Curtis of Stillwater, NY., and Eldon Gast and his wife, Clara Jane and their sons, Jed and William of Garner; her twin sister, Mattie Riemer of Garner and a sister, Margaret Reis of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Helen Gates of Halsy, Ore., and Mabel Ridder of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben on Feb. 21, 1962; a sister, Cora Schaefer; and twin brother and sister, Lawrence Gates and Florence Martinson.
