Mrs. Mary Renziehausen passed away May 19,1912, at the advanced age of 82 years, 6 months, and 25 days. “She was the daughter of Henry and Dorathy Seilig was born of German parentage. She was born Swahran Hanover, Germany Oct 25, 1829 and with her parents to America to the State of Ohio” in 1844. “She seems to have been an only child, and her mother died leaving her at the age of 19 to care for the father.” A year later she married Louis Renziehausen also a native of Germany. At the beginning of the 1850s “there began a general exodus from Ohio and New York to the young state of Iowa. The Renziehausens came in that emigration settling in Allamakee County 5 miles northeast of Monona in 1851 after improving their homestead they lived on it 45 years moving here only when advancing years made labor impossible. They built a good home in Monona to spend the remainder of their life. This was in 1895 and Mr Renziehausen died the last day of 1897. Since then she has kept house with her son Will and daughters Minnie and Martha. There were 8 children in all, one son died in infancy. Besides those at home, son Henry and 3 daughters, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs Larsen, and Mrs. Jostin all of Klemme, Iowa.

Mrs. Mary Renziehausen passed away early on Sunday morning, May 19, 1912 at the advanced age of 82 years, 6 mo., 25 days. She was the daughter of Henry and Dorothy Seiling, was of German parentage. She was born in Swahranm, Hanover Germany Oct 25, 1829, and with her parents immigrated to America to the State of Ohio in the year 1844. She seems to have been an only child, and her mother died leaving her at the age of 19 to care for the father. A year later she married to Louis Renziehausen also a native of Germany. At the beginning of the 50’s there began a general exodus from Ohio and New York to the young state of Iowa. The Renziehausens came in that emigration, settling in Allamakee Co. 5 miles northeast of Monona in 1851. After improving their homestead they lived on it 45 years moving here to spend the remainder of their life. This was in 1895 and Mr. Renziehausen died in the last day of 1897. Since then she has kept house with her son Will and daughters Minnie and Martha. There were eight children in all, on son died in infancy. Besides the three at home there is a son Henry and 3 daughters, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Larsen, and Mrs. Josten, all of Klemme Iowa. The deceased was a woman of religious mind, by early training and cultivation,. She and her husband was converted about the time of their marriage and untied with the German Methodist church in Ohio, and since coming to Iowa being members at Giard and at Monona. To the last she spoke joyfully of the Eternal Home whither she was going and of her gladness so soon to be with Christ and the Redeemed. Although of frail health for some time past, her mortal sickness began only 8 days before her demise. Like Jacob of old she gave parting admonitions and benedictions for each of her children and fell asleep in Christ. The funeral services were held by her pastor at the Methodist church Tuesday May 21. Interment in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Word was received in Klemme last Sunday of the death of Mrs. Renziehausen which occurred at her home in Clayton county. Deceased was the other of Mrs. John Josten, Mrs. J. P. Larsen, and Mrs. Fred Arnold, Sr., of this place.
